After work we drove to the park-and-fly place we acquired through groupon. We
check-in, got seated together in the exit row, lots of leg space which it's
good when your buddies are 6'2" tall each. All was good except our flight;
it was delayed just about an hour.
We got to the National Rental Car to use
our "free" day credit, courtesy of Pocho. The boys where very
emphatic that I should have stayed away from the rental place. But we still had
problems. They didn’t want to upgrade Pocho to a better vehicle; they said he
was not an "elite" member, which he has been for a long time. Our
opinion is, that for the free credit day, eligibility for upgrade rules change
or the customer service is horrible no matter where you go.
When we got into the blue dodge, we turned
the GPS on, and it froze. No GPS working and we proceeded to use the GPS on the
iphone. Heading out of the rental, Boston greeted us with our first toll,
$3.50, no way out of it. An hour and half drive later we arrived to Fitchburg,
at dawn and I decided I would book a hotel for the Saturdays hangout on
downtown. Driving 1.5 hours after drinking is not a good idea.
Arrived to CinRose’s house, were she
greeted us with her big smile and still broken leg. She went with us everywhere
with her boot. We slept and woke up ready to drink us some beer. Samuel Adams
brewery never disappoints. We even got into the party bus to go to Doyles and
eat. We couldn’t make it to Harpoon brewery, because we were running late for
the game, it was a sad decision but necessary. We were also very sad to know
that for the bully boys whiskey and vodka distillery appointments needed to be
made previously. Another reason to always go back!
We checked in on the Renaissance Hotel,
loved how they treated us because of our Platinum level. Also, the valet
parking was wicked expensive, 44 dollars a night! There is a parking garage
nearby for about $10. Not knowing about the price on the garage, we checked the
car with the hotel's valet. It took them more than 45 minutes to get us the car
back so we could drive to the game and we were running really late for the
game. The parking bill was taken off, so score! We got to the game and it was
fun. Bought a cap, I ate a lot of junk food, met with my friend Diana. Sadly
enough Red Sox lost against the Toronto Blue Jays.
We went back to the hotel and cleaned
ourselves to go dancing to the Latin lounge, Mojitos. As we were walking a
crowd of about 30 naked people riding bicycles and roller skates passed us by.
My first reaction was to ask myself the silly question. "Are those people
naked?" and one of the bike riders shouted that they were indeed naked. I
was shocked for a few seconds and couldn't stop staring. Made me feel good of
myself and what I have. It made me laugh.
We got to the Latin lounge, Mojitos, and
met up with my friend Di and her friends. My cousin Zequi and his bubbly
Brazilian wife, Kenia, whom we adore, also came. We danced, drank and partied
as wild as we know. Got back to the hotel, but not without getting lost through
the tunnels and all the misleading exits.
On Sunday we went to Newbury St and had
brunch at Trident Bookstore. Love the place, love the food, love the books, and
hate their policy of not sitting the guest until the complete party is there in
flesh. Had a Morning Monte Cristo (Delish!) and bought a book that had Audrey
Hepburn on the cover and it was a diet plan to get on little black dresses. It
was only three bucks.
On our way back to Fitchburg, we got into
a little bumper to bumper situation, we weren't texting and driving, and we had
done a complete stop. One of us, the one who was driving for some reason tapped
the SUV in front of us. There were three people, and one of the ladies was
beyond rude. The first thing she shouted was "Do you have a problem with
us?” Seriously? Like we planned this, because we love to bump into cars for
fun. I was pissed. Story short, even the cop sided with us, yes, it was our
fault, but nothing really happened. Our car had a twisted frontal license
plate, nothing Zequi couldn't repair.
We got to my grandmothers (on my father’s
side) house (this part was not intended to be on the trip). Mostly everybody
was there, scary but it was fun. Jojo cooked a mean porterhouse steak and my
aunts were delighted with having a man in the kitchen. Of course I got mocked enormously
for not even knowing how to cut onions. My aunt did an outstanding Mofongo and
our Brazilian Kenia baked some cheese bread. I ate, and ate a lot! Overall,
grandma thinks I have two boyfriends, and that I can cook. CinRose and I
laughed so bad, we don't even try to correct her. Now, I am sure more smitten
with Jojo by his skills in the kitchen. A man that can cook and make a great impression
with my silly aunts? Yes please! Pocho and Zequi fixed that twisted license
plate, so we were good to go.
One-stop before we left was needed. I
wanted to see my beautiful baby niece Adele and give her a lion plush I had
gotten her from Georgia. She was sleeping, but I woke her up. She kept
saying she didn’t want me to pick her up. She is so smart and adorable. On our
way out, as I was shutting the door of the car a huge dog came chasing toward
us. I slammed the door on time, scare of the night part two. I was ready to go
home. To think we needed to wake-up at 2:30 AM and go straight to work the
following day. What a drag! But that’s the price to pay.
We definitely need to come back, and not
only for Jojo to cook, but to go to Harpoon, the distillery for Bully boys and
also to take them to Quincy Market. Much more places are sure to be visited
too.
Coming up Next? 4th of July and
my momma, step-papa and little brother are visiting!
